Retention basins reduce the potential risk of flooding and allow the collection of rainwater, either temporally or permanently, taking up the form of dynamic ponds, regulated by water levels – high and low. 

The creation of these basins will contribute to the retention and storage of water; removal of suspended sediment in the water; treatment of rainwater and improvement of water quality filtering out pollutants; better water infiltration into the soil; promotion of biodiversity and visual amenity.
